Mileta Prodanović, Visual artist, fiction writer and art critic, professor of painting at the University of Arts in Belgrade – School of Painting.

Mileta Prodanović was born in Belgrade in 1959. He studied architecture and painting and graduated at the University of Arts in Belgrade – School of Painting in 1983. M. A. at the same School in 1985. He finished Special Post-graduate course at the Royal College of Arts in London 1988-89. and obtained the degree of Doctor in Arts, University of Arts in Belgrade – School of Painting, 2009.

He exhibits since 1980. – He had one-man shows in various galleries in ex-Yugoslavia and in Europe (Germany, Austria, Italy, Ukraine…) in the United States and group shows in many countries (represented Yugoslavia at 42nd Venice Biennial). Mileta Prodanović publishes essays, art criticism and fiction since 1982. He published more than fifteen volumes. Some of his books, short stories and essays had been translated into English, German, French, Polish, Hungarian, Ukrainian, Bulgarian etc…

He was one of the founders of the “Belgrade circle – association of the independent intellectuals” (in 1991) and also one of the founding members of the “Writers Forum” – the society of independent authors in Belgrade, in 1999. He is member of Serbian PEN Center and AICA (International Association of Art Critics) and also the Honorary Fellow in writing (participation in International Writing Program in 2001) The University of Iowa, Iowa City, United States.
